The Norfolk parakeet (Cyanoramphus cookii), also known as the Tasman parakeet, is a critically endangered bird endemic to Norfolk Island, a small territory in the Pacific Ocean. This vibrant green parakeet has experienced significant population declines primarily due to habitat loss and degradation caused by agricultural expansion and the introduction of invasive species such as rats, cats, and pigs, which prey on their eggs and young. The clearing of native forests for pasture and development has further reduced their available habitat, limiting their nesting and feeding sites. Additionally, competition with invasive bird species has put additional pressure on the Norfolk parakeet.

Conservation efforts, including habitat restoration, predator control programs, and captive breeding initiatives, are essential to protect and recover the remaining population of this unique and charismatic parakeet.
